How to create an .md file

Start a blank Markdown document in Champ Mode, write with formatting tools, and download a regular .md file when you finish.

Create your document

  1. Open the dotMD Champ editor and unlock Champ Mode if needed.
  2. Select New .md file above the document. Enter a name such as meeting-notes.md; the editor adds .md if you leave it off.
  3. Write in the blank editor. Select text before using a toolbar button to format it, or select a button without a selection to insert example text you can replace.
  4. Choose Read to preview the formatted page, then return to Edit for changes.
  5. Choose Save to download your .md file, or Export to create a Word document or printable PDF.

Use the formatting toolbar

The toolbar adds H1, H2, and H3 headings; bold and italic text; links; bulleted and numbered lists; quotes; inline code; code blocks; and tables. You can also type Markdown directly:

# Meeting notes

## Actions

- Draft the outline
- Share the review link

**Owner:** Alex

The editor also supports Ctrl or Command + B for bold, I for italic, and K for a link.

Save before leaving: Drafts are saved locally on this device and can be restored when you return. Use Save to download a permanent .md copy. Clearing browser data or using another device will remove local drafts.

Work with more than one file

Champ Mode lets you keep up to five files open in tabs. Close one if you reach the limit before creating another. Reading one existing file at a time is free; creating, editing, and exporting require Champ Mode.
